Our Mission

The Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund strives to aid in the treatment, care, and support of cancer patients in need.

Established in 2004 by the Benedictine Health Foundation, and in partnership with the Gruner Family, the Fund provides financial assistance for residents of Ulster County regardless of the facility or location they currently receive cancer treatment, and also for residents of neighboring Hudson Valley Counties who are receiving cancer treatment from a facility within Ulster County. The Fund currently provides assistance in the form of grocery and/or fuel gift cards to patients who meet the financial and clinical qualifications.

Patients who are in current treatment for a cancer diagnosis and have an annual household income of less than $55,000 for families or $35,000 for single qualify to apply for assistance from the Fund.

When a patient’s health insurance does not cover a required cancer treatment product, the HealthAlliance Oncology Support Program in Kingston (845-339-2071) or your treatment center’s support program may be able to help with prosthesis, lymph edema sleeves, wigs, turbans, surgical bras, or compression stockings.

Please contact Bernadette Rexford, Development Manager, at (845) 334-3017 to inquire about the Fund or to receive an application. Once qualified, non-cash assistance of up to $500 per calendar year is available. 100% of the patients who have qualified have been provided with assistance to date.

The goal of this Fund is to provide support to every eligible cancer patient both now and in the future.
